The Hocus Focus Coven Fall 2025
Well…maybe you’re a bad writer as well, if you’re anything like me
i can squeeze something out under pressure, but its tight, makes me squeamish, the whole thing is tainted by bad feels
my throat chakra is tight as a pinhole, my sacral is not activated, im not a yes, im a no no no but I HAVE to for some job, some assignment, some last minute request….and its painful.
and then theres the other - arguably exponentially worse- flavor of PAIN and SUFFERING
it stems also from a feeling of but I HAVE to
but not because any external factor is making me
and not even because i’d like to or I want to ( god knows that is NOT enough to get to going, sadly)
in this circumstance, i HAVE to write
because something beyond me, something bigger than my incarnate little s self, call it a higher power, call it the muse, call it my higher self- whatever form it takes-
is screaming at me from inside FULFILL THE CALL
inseminating me with inspiration that is intoxicating and exciting at first but then begins to sit heavy in the heart womb the longer it festers untouched -
growing - growing growing- until the weight of it is unbearable-
and eventually - i give up- i feel fleeting relief. and then it comes back
it always comes back
the secret is, ive created these candles and this coven more for me than for you,
i want some magical writing accountability, and i want to share these candles and this method of candle magick
the inspiration for hocus focus candles
came in 2023- I wanted a visual and symbolic marker of time spent focusing on my creative work. the idea is that the candles take almost exactly 90 min to burn down- and while one is lit im committed to the sacred space of focus
in 2024, i discovered a method of crafting these 100% beeswax candles, and I gave the first large batch away to magical friends of mine all over the US
and I heard amazing feedback from them- beyond my wildest dreams actually- the candles were activating visions and channeling capabilities for some. And were adding an energentic clarity to their workings.
so in 2025 i’m leaning in, and i’ve started crafting candles during astrologically significant times, incorporating color associations, and anointing them with charged oils and herbs
…and let me tell you- these candles as magickal objects are fucking rocking out.
…and now I want to see what happens when a coven of bad witches- good writers…..use them at the same time, consistently, for two months
when you light a hocus focus candle
a circle of resonance surrounds you
so what if we had another circle of resonance- a circle of fellow witches- all lighting hocus focus candles at the same time- three times a week
and creating in synch
and supporting each other in creative community
….sounds hot right?
Virgo New Moon Candles
the first batch of candles i’ve crafted for this coven…
were created on Friday 8/22 and anointed in ritual at 2:06 am est as the virgo new moon became exact
they’re annointed with castor oil carrying cedarwood oil and rose water, and I performed a specific working for the flourishing of this coven
with much emphasis on opening our channels with the divine muse
the first thirty members
get ten free candles in the mail! (five in sept and five in oct) there will be more candles for sale, and i’ve reserved the ritual annointing oil from 8/22 to annoint new batches
we will also ritually imbue a new batch of oil on the full moon in oct- and the second five you receive will be from that batch
we will charge anointing oil together on the sept full moon as well - you can do this at home to annoint your own candles- DIY is great- ANY candle lit in the sacred space of this coven will symbolically serve its purpose
i’ll also encourage everyone to make their writing area into a ritual space
Some more of the dirty details
there will be 3 Hocus Focus sessions on the calendar EVERY WEEK!
the times and days of the calls vary significantly in order to accommodate varying member availability
the sessions include a ten minute landing and checkin (via zoom chat) and one hour of uninterrupted writing time
followed up by 20 min to share (by raise of hand, 3 min shares)
*staying for sharing is optional, Hocus Focus Sessions are optional (hell, all the calls are optional)
i will stay later when i can if there’s a lot of desire to share, and we will also be connected in our very own private community channel on Mighty Networks-
where you will have your own profile and can share your work on the forum.
I’m SO excited for this part. I can’t wait to see what beautiful expressions come out of these sessions
It’s likely most people won’t make it three times a week and thats okay!
all the calls will be recorded so you can follow along in the container on your own time- but i also suggest you go easy on yourself if you miss some live co-writing sessions one week, just jump back in!
that’s the nature of this kind of magical practice- finding a rhythm, not failing- the candles are about FOCUS not about PRODUCTIVITY and i wont hold you to those old aeon standards of showing up perfectly or attaching morality or success to your level of commitment.
the important thing is that there is a time and a place to ritually engage in the magickal practice of writing together
we are peforming a RITUAL everytime we write together
any time of day- we are synchronously signaling to the collective consciousness that
we are aware of a pull to fulfill the call
we are willing to birth the seeds of inspiration
we are in alignment and ready to be an open channel.
which brings up the question- do i have to be writing?
well ill start by saying- songwriting, writing web content, writing really good instragram captions, writing in your magickal diary or journal- are all “writing” in my world. we’re not talking about some sort of standardized, structured “Writing” with a capital W- in fact that sort of concept of writing is what has gotten me personally into this mess to begin with. im sure you can tell by this web page- that i am not a top tier writer in any regard. actually - i often find im more fluent when speaking, or editing film, than i am sitting down to write. writing is a challenge for me, but theres a call to write- and so it makes a writing practice perfect creative grounds for alchemy to take place-
so whatever is going to jive for you - go for it- id be happy to see people recording solo podcasts, painting, drawing, editing video, creating graphic art, making their new website. you can change what you’re working on day to day- you will know if the edgy thing for you to do is to focus on one project- or if its edgy enough just to challenge yourself to sit down and focus multiple times a week. and sometimes the edgy thing to do is to listen to your body and change directions half way through :) i’ll trust you to do the personally powerful thing until you can trust yourself
